Spare Note
Menu bar notes & scratchpads · macOS 14 or later · coming soon to the Mac App Store
Spare Note is the note you always have on hand — like a spare key, but for whatever is in your head right now.
It lives in your menu bar. Hit the hotkey, type the thing, and get back to what you were doing. A phone number mid-call, a confirmation code, the reply you want to reword before you send it — everything that doesn't have a home yet, caught before it slips away.
Nine scratchpads
Nine fixed notes, always in the same order. No files to name, no folders to manage, nothing to organize or clean up. Each note is simply there, exactly where you left it, saved automatically as you type.
Made for the in-between
- ⌘⇧X cuts the whole note: the entire text lands on your clipboard, the note clears, and you're ready for the next thought. Draft here, paste anywhere, start fresh.
- ⌘⇧C makes a private copy that clipboard managers won't record.
- One global hotkey opens Spare Note from any app, on any screen.
Private by design
- Your notes never leave your Mac. No account, no cloud, no tracking.
- Optional encryption keeps your notes encrypted on disk (AES-256), with the key stored safely in your Mac's Keychain.
- Plain text underneath. Your words stay yours.
